Product Description

Homo erectus: there is evidence of altruistic behavior

Some of the remains of Homo erectus show evidence of long-term diseases and extended care of the sick. In some cases, the bones reveal hypervitaminosis, an extreme condition that is brought on by the consumption of large amounts of carnivores livers containing lethal doses of vitamin A.

The fact that these individuals survived for significant periods means their relatives looked after them and fed them, rather than leaving them to be eaten by the hyenas.
